Challenging the Men of Wendlebury

From Anni Thompson:

It is well known in Wendlebury that we have a great many good male cooks living in our midst.  When we eat out on the Travelling Supper or at friends and neighbours it is often the male of the household who produces the delicious dishes of which we partake.

However now we have made a challenge to the men of Wendlebury to show us what you can produce  as either a cold canapé or a hot main course and let us judge your food -----and you are SLOW at volunteering

This is a fun event. No real experience is required as you decide what to produce and prepare it in advance. You bring it to the village hall where you can titivate or finish off your dish, heat it through etc. For a canapé you need enough to give up to 40 guests one each, for the main course just enough to give everyone a taste of your dish.

So there is no risk that you might make a fool of yourself, burning the hall down, getting loud suggestions from the fairer sex, tossing a pancake etc.  And even better we are paying you for your ingredients ( generous maximum level applies ).

Help us create a successful fun evening in the bleakness of a February weekend. If interested please e-mail or speak to Gordy Wills, Lois Lancaster, Graham Brown, Anni or Steve Thompson for further information as soon as possible.

Walking 19th January

From Mark Rogers:

Hope you're all well and have enjoyed the festive period.

I would like to arrange a 6.5 mile circular walk from Piddington on Sunday 29th January. Starting at 10.30am from the road junction by Piddington church.

Again, parking may be a problem so lift sharing might be advisable.

Look forward to seeing you all there.

Old Warm Kit

From Dianna Broun

If anyone has old blankets, towels or duvets, they are urgently needed by Ardley Rescue Kennels.  If you do, could you please either ring me on 01869 245033 and I can collect them, or drop them off at 25 Rectory Close - if not in, please leave behind the side gate.  Many thanks

Welcome to the New Year

Thanx to Neil Ross for this one.

Bounce-fit comes to Kidlington

Messy Church

Families, food and fun, craft, creativity, celebration and chat.

That’s what makes Messy Church so popular in so many places, and, three cheers! because...

is coming to The Akeman Benefice. Messy Church is a rapidly-growing nationwide activity which aims to provide people of all ages with a relaxed, creative time together, followed by a very short, informal worship time and then a meal. It is NOT a leave-your-children-and-collect-them-later event but very much for the whole family to have a good time together and to have the chance to chat with others, too. Activities for all ages are provided. It aims to be very accessible and friendly. The whole thing will last about an hour and a half, including the meal, and will be monthly, on a Sunday afternoon, in Kirtlington Church.

The first ever Messy Church in our villages will take place on Sunday January 29th, 4 - 5.30pm. Come along and give it a try. No need to book, though catering will be easier if you let us know you are thinking of coming, so you can email Joanna on paulandjoannac@gmail.com After that, the next few dates are: Sundays Feb 26th, March 25th, April 22nd, and May 27th.

In the absence of a Notice Board

The Noticeboard will come back soon.

Pilates courses at Chesterton School

Pilates courses run at Chesterton Primary School throughout the year. They are suitable for most people and ideal for anyone with poor posture, weak abdominal or pelvic floor muscles. The courses run in 6 week blocks and every programme is very different. You will work with bands, fitness circles, weights, stability balls and a whole range of other equipment which is supplied. All you need is a mat, hand towel and a bottle of water. We work in loose comfortable clothes so no expensive outfits are necessary and there are no more than 10 participants per group. The times are 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Wednesday evenings. The cost is £50 per 6 week course. To check course start dates, discuss any medical conditions you may have or to book a place, please call Terri Hopkins on             01869 351080      or             0797 081 6979      . Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance

The following from Eleanor Green, Oxfordshire Fundraising Manager, Thames Valley & Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust

As the Oxfordshire Fundraising Manager for the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance, I am looking to recruit some new volunteers for our busy events calendar in 2012 and am eager to reach as many local communities as possible.

With no central Government or National Lottery funding, we rely on the local communities throughout Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire to keep this emergency service operational 365 days of the year. We are looking for individuals who like meeting new people, trying new things and want to join a fantastic social network  by volunteering a few hours a week to their local Air Ambulance. We provide training and pay all reasonable expenses, so you will never be out of pocket, and with 200 events attended in Oxfordshire throughout 2011, there will be an event to suit everyones tastes.

Without our volunteers, we simply couldn't do what we do. For more information about TVACAA please visit www.tvacaa.org or contact me on             0300 999 0135       or at eleanor@tvacaa.org.
